我遇到一些問題或突然對某個事物感興趣時,會找同類別的書來看。我覺得書總是可以告訴我答案。

慢慢發現,不是每個問題都能找到答案。
最近看完一本關于工作的書,據說十分暢銷。

中文版長這樣,書名翻譯為《重來:更為簡單有效的商業思維》。我竟然看完了一本關于商業的書?這本書一點也不商業啊,都是平實樸素犀利的小道理啊!

作者叫Jason Fried,是一家互聯網公司37signals的創始人,他還有個TED演講,感興趣的朋友可以去搜搜。
職場相關的書籍要么教你怎么做人,要么教你怎么努力。這本書套路有點不一樣,是我喜歡的一針見血的類型。

大部分關于創業公司,但我覺得工作的人都可以找到你想要的那碗雞血。
Ideas are cheap and plentiful.
想法誰沒有。
Great companies start in garages all the time.
大公司都是從車庫發家的。
When you spend time worrying about someone else, you cant spend that time improving yourself.
如果你花時間擔心別人對你的看法,你就沒時間提升自己了。
You cant beat someone whos making the rules. You need to redefine the rules, not just build something slightly better.
你打不過那些制定規則的人。你只能重新定義規則,而不是只做出稍微好一點點的東西來。
Smart companies make the opposite: something thats at-home good. When you get the product home, youre actually more impressed with it than you were at the store. You live with it and grow to like it more and more. And you tell your friends, too.
聰明的公司做的東西是你在家里使用感會更好的東西。當你買回家的時候,發現它比在商店里還好。你很快離不開它了,并推薦給了你的朋友。
Being obscure is a great position to be in. Be happy youre in the shadows. Use this time to make mistakes without the whole world hearing about them. Keep tweaking. Work out the kinks. Test random ideas. Try new things. No one knows you, so its no big deal if you mess up. Obscurity helps protect your ego and preserve your confidence.
默默無聞是件好事。利用這段時間犯錯,因為即使犯錯了,也不會人盡皆知。努力嘗試新想法,沒人認識你,所以搞砸了也沒啥。默默無聞可以保護你的自尊和自信。
Teaching is something individuals and small companies can do that bigger competitors cant. Big companies can afford a Super Bowl ad; you cant. But you can afford to teach, and thats something theyll never do, because big companies are obsessed with secrecy.

People love finding out the little secrets of all kinds of businesses.

Marketing is not a department.
營銷不僅僅是個部門。
Dont think these are the only people responsible for marketing. Accounting is a department. Marketing isnt. Marketing is something everyone in your company is doing 24/7/365.
不要認為營銷是市場部該做的事。財務是個部門,但營銷不是,營銷是所有人365天做的事。
Every time you answer the phone, its marketing.
Every time you send an e-mail, its marketing.
Every time someone uses your product, its marketing.
Every word you write on your Web site is marketing.
If you build software, every error message is marketing.
If youre in the restaurant business, the after-dinner mint is marketing.
If youre in the retail business, the checkout counter is marketing.
If youre in a service business, your invoice is marketing.
Recognize that all of these little things are more important than choosing which piece of swag to throw into a conference goodie bag. Marketing isnt just a few individual events. Its the sum total of everything you do.

Never hire anyone to do a job until youve tried to do it yourself first. That way, youll understand the nature of the work. Youll know what a job well done looks like. Youll know how to write a realistic job description and which questions to ask in an interview. Youll know whether to hire someone full-time.

If you go to a cocktail party where everyone is a stranger, the conversation is dull and stiff. You make small talk about the weather, sports, TV shows, etc. You shy away from serious conversations and controversial opinions.

A small, intimate dinner party among old friends is a different story, though. There are genuinely interesting conversations and heated debates. At the end of the night, you feel you actually got something out of it.

Hire a ton of people rapidly and a "strangers at a cocktail party" problem is exactly what you end up with. There are always new faces around, so everyone is unfailingly polite. Everyone tries to avoid any conflict or drama. No one says, "This idea sucks." People appease instead of challenge. And that appeasement is what gets companies into trouble.
如果一下子雇傭很多人,那么你的結局就像在雞尾酒上的談話一樣。到處都是新面孔,大家很禮貌,避免沖突和戲劇化。沒人會說“這個想法一點也不好”。大家傾向于安寧而不是挑戰,這種安寧對你的公司沒有啥幫助。
We all know resumes are a joke. 我們都知道簡歷就是個玩笑。(哈哈哈,你很懂~)
Worst of all, theyre too easy. Anyone can create a decent-enough resume. Thats why half-assed applicants love them so much. They can shotgun out hundreds at a time to potential employers. Its another form of spam.
因為簡歷太容易了,每個人都能搞一份高大上的簡歷出來。這就是為什么很多并不優秀的求職者很愛在簡歷上做文章。他們能一下子群發給幾百家公司,這其實就是另一種形式的垃圾郵件。
If you are trying to decide among a few people to fill a position, hire the best writer. It doesnt matter if that person is a marketer, salesperson, designer, programmer, or whatever; their writing skills will pay off.
如果你正在一堆人中猶豫不決不知道招哪一個,我建議你選最會寫作的那個。不管你招什么崗位,他們的寫作技能總會值得的。(這個我還不知道呢。)
Clear writing is a sign of clear thinking. Great writers know how to communicate. They make things easy to understand. They can put themselves in someone elses shoes. They know what to omit. And those are qualities you want in any candidate.
清晰的寫作代表了清晰的思路。好的作者知道怎么交流。他們讓事情更容易理解,能為別人考慮,知道什么該省略。這些特質是所有職位都需要的。
Writing is making a comeback all over our society. Look at how much people e-mail and text-message now rather than talk on the phone. Look at how much communication happens via instant messaging and blogging. Writing is todays currency for good ideas.
而且,寫作的重要性在今天的社會卷土重來啦。你看,大家都要寫郵件,發消息,寫博客。寫作是當今社會好想法的潮流。
An "I" apology is a lot stronger than a "we" apology.
“我很抱歉” 比 “我們很抱歉”語氣更誠懇。
The more people you have between your customers words and the people doing the work, the more likely it is that the message will get lost or distorted along the way.
客戶和產品生產者之間的人越多,信息就越有可能被曲解和丟失。
Everyone on your team should be connected to your customers--maybe not every day, but at least a few times throughout the year. Thats the only way your team is going to feel the hurt your customers are experiencing. Its feeling the hurt that really motivates people to fix the problem.
你團隊里的每個人都應該和客戶有所聯系,可能不是每天,但至少一年有那么幾次。這是你的團隊感受到客戶痛點的唯一方式。這個痛點能夠激勵大家解決問題。
What do you gain if you ban employees from, say, visiting a social-networking site or watching YouTube while at work? You gain nothing. That time doesnt magically convert to work. Theyll just find some other diversion. A little YouTube or Facebook time never hurt anyone.
如果你禁止你的員工看一會兒社交網站和視頻有啥好處嗎?啥也沒有,因為這些時間不可能魔力般地變作生產力啊。他們只會找些其他轉移注意力的事來做。看點視頻和朋友圈沒有什么大的害處。
There are four-letter words you should never use in business. Theyre not fuck or shit. Theyre need, must, cant, easy, just, only, and fast. These words get in the way of healthy communication. (and also watch out for their cousins: everyone, no one, always, and never).
這些詞你最好不要在工作中使用,當然并不是臟話哈,如“需要” “必須” “不能” “容易” “僅僅” “只有” “快”,這些詞會阻礙正常交流的。(當然還要注意這些詞的親戚們,如“每個人” “沒有人” “總是” “從不”。)
(哈哈哈,總結一下,就是極端詞匯,聽起來就盛氣凌人的,給人壓迫感的詞匯。我們可以造些句子來試試,比如“這個工作這么容易,你還沒搞定?” “每個人都不能缺席這周的公司會議” ,怎么樣,你什么感覺?)
ASAP is poison
“盡快” 有毒。(哈哈哈,有毒)
When you turn into one of these people who adds ASAP to the end of every request, youre saying everything is high priority. And when everything is high priority, nothing is. It devalues any request that doesnt say ASAP. So reserve your use of emergency language for true emergencies.
如果你每項任務都加上 “盡快”, 你的意思是每件事都很重要,那么其實沒什么事很重要。這樣你就貶低了那些后面沒有備注“盡快”的要求。所以,把“盡快”留給真正緊急的時候用吧。
Inspiration is a magical thing, a productivity multiplier, a motivator. But it wont wait for you. Inspiration is a now thing.
靈感是個神奇的東西,是生產力的加速器,是動力。但靈感不等人啊,是轉瞬即逝的東西。(對啊,每次想寫個文章,因為拖著沒寫,就再也沒寫了。)
