1.bank, shore, beach, coat

• bank意思為岸，主要指河岸、河堤。

The city of London is on the banks of the River Thames.倫敦城在泰晤士河兩岸。

Shore意思是岸，指海、湖、大河的岸，常含有與水域相對之意。

The ship stopped a little way off the shore.

這船停在離岸不遠(yuǎn)的地方。

• beach意思是海灘、湖灘，主要指漲潮時有水，退潮時無水，有沙子或卵石的海灘或湖灘。

They are taking a sunbath on the beach.

他們在海灘上曬太陽。

• cost意思是海岸，主要指陸與水相接的沿線，即海岸線，作為水域邊界。

There are many ports on the east coast of our land.我國東海岸上有許多港口。

2.roomplace

• room表示人和物體所占的空間或場所，為不可數(shù)名詞，可用much,little等詞修飾；常用短語有take up room占地方及make room for給...讓出地方 。

• place指人們從事各種活動的地方、場所、位置。

Hangzhou is nice place to live in.

杭州是居住的好地方。

3.classlesson

• class表示“課”，指以四十（五十....）分鐘為單位的課堂教學(xué)活動，也可指學(xué)校的班級或全體學(xué)生。

We have no classes on Sundays.我們星期天不上課。

Class Two is a big class.（2）班是一個大班。

• lesson的意思是“課文；功課；課”，著重指教學(xué)內(nèi)容。lesson作課時可與class換用。

After school, the boys play first, and then do their lessons.

男孩子放學(xué)后先玩后做功課。

We took/had five lessons/classes every week.

我們每周上五節(jié)英語課。

4.cloth, clothes, clothing, dress

• cloth指做衣服用的材料（布料、毛料、絲綢等），為物質(zhì)名詞，不可數(shù)，沒有復(fù)數(shù)形式。

How much cloth does it take to make a blouse for the girl？

給這個女孩做件襯衫需要多少布料？

• clothes統(tǒng)稱各種衣服，包括外套、西裝、襯衣、褲子、裙子、鞋、帽等，不能和具體數(shù)目的數(shù)詞連用，但可用many, these, those, a few, my等詞修飾，作主語時謂語用復(fù)數(shù)。一套衣服為a suit of clothes.

Many movie starts have their clothes made in Paris.許多電影明星在巴黎定制服裝。

I bought two suits of clothes yesterday.

昨天我買了兩套衣服。

• clothing是衣服、服裝的總稱，集合名詞，只有單數(shù)形式，是區(qū)別于其他事物的抽象概念，作主語時謂語用單數(shù)。說一件衣服可用an article of clothing 和a piece of clothing.

Our clothing protects us from the cold.

衣服幫助我們御寒。

An overcoat is an article/ a piece of clothing.

大衣是一件衣服。

• dress指外面穿著的衣服，有修飾的意味，尤指婦女的連衣裙或某種特殊場合下穿著的禮服。

Mary paid 200 dollars for an evening dress.

瑪麗花200美元買了件晚禮服。

5.dateday

• date指具體的日期。

Date of birth October 22nd,1992

出生日期：1992年10月22日

What’s the date today？今天幾號？

• day表示“一日；白天”，可指從日出到日落之“白晝”，也可指一晝夜。

He works eight hours a day.

他一天工作八小時。

What day is it today？

今天星期幾？
